A week ago, my ex-husband informed me that he would be having a house guest stay with him for a week or so. She is the neice of a friend of his, and she was coming to our part of the country to look at colleges and needed a place to stay. Now, I thought at the time that was a little weird...if I had a young girl who wanted to look at colleges, I wouldn't send her to live with an unmarried older man that she'd never met. But whatever. Anyway, he wanted to know if that was going to be a problem with having the kids stay over.
I don't think I was unreasonable in saying yes, I would prefer the kids not stay overnight at his house when he was having a house guest that they don't know and I don't know.
He said fine.
Today, he called me to inform me that she would be "staying longer than anticipated". Now, not being a stupid person, it was clear to me the first day I went to pick the kids up after school and she was hanging out there in her pajamas, calling him honey and putting her arms around his waist to get by him in the kitchen, that they were sleeping together. It was, apparently, also obvious to my daugher, who told me last night that she thinks daddy "likes" her.
So, when I asked him how much longer he said she would be living with him for a while. How long? He's not sure, a month or so while she looks for an apartment because she's moving up here from Texas. He wanted to know if that was going to be an issue.
I really thought he must be kidding. He just met this girl on Saturday. This past Saturday. He hasn't even known her an entire week. And now he wants to invite her move in with him.....oh, and did he forget to mention her baby daughter? Um, yeah, he did.
And somehow, the fact that I don't want to let the kids stay overnight at his house when she's living with him makes me a bitch and makes him angry.
WTF?!?!
Is it me?
This year, the kids have been wanting to start decorating for Christmas, and I just don't have the heart to tell them no.

I bet you thought I'd forgotten about these...I didn't, I've just been not doing them. To say that real life has gotten a bit out of hand would be putting it mildly indeed. But I'm going to get back on track now, because my writer's block has me at a complete stand still. This is going to help. Yup. It is.

This is the view from downtown - which is not actually Lake Placid, but is in fact called Mirror Lake.
This is the view behind the restaurant where we had lunch on Saturday afternoon. If you look really, really carefully, in the background behind that little porch is the Adirondack Scenic Railroad.

This is a view of the Olympic ski jump from the spectator platform. I don't think this picture can really do justice to just how incredibly huge this thing is. And, bearing in mind that you're already half-way up a mountain, these ski jumpers are INSANE!!!!

This is just a pretty picture of....somewhere I can't remember the name of. We pulled off the highway to take some pictures of the sun over the mountains.
Just another picture of the mountains.
It was a lovely place to visit, and it was nice to get a break from the kids. But I will say...family vacations when you're the kid are not nearly as much fun when you're really an adult.

Frankly, considering that my writing style is completely unmatched with that community, I'm amazed to have lasted as long as I did. It was purely by virtue of the skips, I assure you.

I have been trying to get my truck fixed for nearly a month. It's a long and complicated story involving my ex-husband, but suffice it to say, the inspection sticker on my truck ran out at the end of last month and it's still not inspected. Finally, this past Friday, the thing that they though was wrong with it was fixed. Only, that's not what was wrong with it, because not 15 miles later the service engine light came back on. So now, I'll need to have more repairs that I can't afford done to it.
This afternoon, my ex-husband called to ask me if I had gotten any mail from the DMV about his truck registration. I haven't. So he tells that the registration on his truck expired in June, and he never got anything in the mail. I suspect that the DMV is one of those places that doesn't allow their mail to be forwarded.
Well, this prompted me to go out and look at the sticker on my truck's license plate, which I never, ever look at and lo and behold! My truck's registration ran out in June too!!!
So, not only is my truck not inspected, it hasn't been registered in the past THREE MONTHS!!!!
It's a good thing I drive like a grandmother and haven't been pulled over recently, because I'd be completely screwed. So now on top of the repairs I can't afford (and have to borrow money from my parents to do which I absolutely hate having to do) I'm going to have to pay a fee to re-register my truck and probably take a day out of work to do it.
It's like being a teenager again, and not being able to accomplish anything and it sucks.
Rant over.
I spent pretty much the entire day today walking that line.
I know there is no way that my supervisor can possibly do all the things she's being asked to do right now. However, neither can I figure it all out when she's done half the work and then abandoned the other half!!
The fact that I don't have any backlog on my desk is not an invitation to dump off the the stuff you can't finish, or the stuff you thought you did but Oops!forgot. Or worse, the stuff you half-assed that is now coming back to bite you ... no wait, to bite me! Not to mention handing stuff off to the "new girl" who has a complete melt down if there are more than three things on her desk at a time. And who, when she melts down, does it at my desk!!
I got exactly 3 things done that I wanted to do today. I spent the entire rest of the day trying to clean up someone else's mess.
This is not a good day.
